The People We Meet

I believe that everyone we meet comes into our life for a reason. And I often like to look at the people I have met and see just how my life is different for knowing them. I have been blessed with some amazing people in my life. Whether it be blessed to have them as my family, friends, students, teammates, players, roommates, neighbors, boyfriends, co-workers, bishops, bosses, or just passengers on my plane. And we can consciously make a choice on how much we let them influence our lives. I love meeting new people and creating new relationships with them. I am awed at how many amazing people there are in this world. I have met people with similar lives as me, and people that are completely different. I adore them for what and who they are.

I value my relationships with my family and friends and all the different people I meet. I could go through and examine everyone and list what I have learned from them, but that would take forever. But this post is actually entirely dedicated to the woman I met on the plane the other day while I was working. She was the last one on the plane, seated in the last row, she walked with a walker and a severe limp. Everyone was a bit irritated as they were in a hurry for the flight to leave. This lady was not filtered, said what she wanted (nothing rude or crude, just frank and funny), she spoke very slowly and slurred her words. She walked with her husband and son to the back of the plane and sat right next to me, and the lavatory, which she laughed about. Saying "it's a good thing they put the cripple all the way in the back, by the toilet, just in case." I looked at her and saw that she clearly had reconstructive surgery done. When we were in the air, she told me her story. She showed me her pictures. She was in a motorcycle accident, got hit by another car. She was in a coma for 7 months, doctors didn't think she would make it. But she did. They said she wouldn't be able to walk again. But she did. She had to learn everything again, how to feed herself, write, do her hair, dress herself, speak. And she did. While in the coma, her then husband cheated on her and brought the other woman into the home. Her current husband married her after the accident, he saw her for the true beautiful person she is. And she is beautiful. Beautiful to the core. Her son is adopted. He was her foster child, one of many she chose to give a home to, and she adopted him at the age of 13 so he would have a family and a better life. Her amazing attitude, outlook on life, and her charisma was enchanting. She feels so blessed for her health and her life. The strongest serving of humble pie I have received in awhile. How grateful I am for the lesson I learned from her. Be thankful. Everyday. For life. For health. For God. Made me feel real dumb for ever complaining about petty things. Made me want to take advantage of my healthy body, and run, and dance, play, sing, laugh, love. Yes, to the beautiful woman I met on the plane, thank you. Thank you for being you. Thank you for your smiling face, even though it may be hard to do so. Thank you for thinking of others, for recognizing the good in your life, for acknowledging God's hand in your life. He has not left you, He has blessed you and loves you as you bless and love others.

You never know who you are influencing. If you are reading this post, there is a strong chance I have learned something from you and I thank you for that.

I escaped to the island once again. Enjoyed some sun, Waimea, good friends, beach, waves, and my favorite food spots. Pipe Masters was going while I was there and the waves were amazing. I loved watching young little John John Florence. I miss my life in Hawaii, but love that I get to go back whenever I want.
I think I like my job :)

Autumn

For the past 3 years I have not been able to enjoy the Fall season living in Hawaii. I thought I loved summer, but I absolutely LOVE Fall. I had no idea what I was missing out on. Oregon is incredibly beautiful this time of the year. I love all the leaves changing colors right now. Red, yellow, orange. Oregon is full of trees. Everywhere. Streets are draped with curtains of leaves. I just drive around everyday in awe of the beauty of this season. I love it so much here!

Seattle

My lil sis came out to visit for the weekend ... we took a quick trip up to Seattle. So fun and so pretty. It was her first time to Washington. We went to the Space Needle. Pike's Market PLace, took a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island, hung out with Kikob, and of course ate good food!

We also hiked around Portland ! We hiked up to Multnommah Falls, just outside of the city limits, and it was breathtaking.

After living in Hawaii for the last 3 years, I have become the biggest beach brat. I hung out in Huntington Beach for the weekend. I had a great time, however California beaches just don't compare to Hawaii...

the water is cold
the sand isn't soft and white
the water isn't clear blue
it's windy
it's cold
the surf isn't as good
there's seaweed everywhere
it's too crowded

see ... i'm a brat!

punch me now. I am the most annoying person to go to the beach with. I haven't even been to Oregon's beach yet. Gulp.

ok, that being said, I still love the beach in any form that I get it and I had so much fun. I really love Huntington, Newport, San Clemente and can totally see myself living here some day!!

We went sailing one day and it was beautiful. We sailed next to a ton of dolphins. It being Shark Week... we kept looking for sharks, but didn't see any.

I got to hang out with cousin and one of my college BFFs... LOVED every minute :)

don't worry, karma got me back . . . i burnt my nose !

and i promise if we go to the beach together, i will have a great attitude and be a lot of fun :)

I love soccer. Playing it. Coaching it. Watching it.

I love to travel. Explore new cities, lands, mountains, seas, people.

I love Hawaii. Perfect weather. Ocean. Beaches. Mountains. Palm trees. Sunsets.

***Warning*** I am going to talk about how awesome I think my life is, sorry.

I have been lucky enough to live the dream the past 3 years. I was living in Hawaii, coaching soccer. I can't think of anything that is better. Coaching soccer for BYU Hawaii, where the team was phenomenal. We won Conference 2 out of the 3 years. And last year we not only took 1st in Conference, we took 2nd in Region, and for the first time in BYUH history, we placed in the top 25 finishing 21st in the Nation. I was named Coach of the Year for our Conference. Coaching this team has brought me so much joy. Playing with them was a treat.

Living in Hawaii has been a dream. I love the warm weather. Running on the beach, watching the sunset, playing in the ocean, surfing, hiking to waterfalls, kayaking in the ocean, getting lost in the mountains, swinging on hammocks, jet skiing to remote islands, cliff jumping, sea turtles, playing soccer, laying out with my friends, my ocean view deck, Froyo, Haleiwa Eats, Matsumoto, Malasadas, Impossibles Pizza, acai bowls, Jeeping up to the turbines, Turtle Bay hot tubs, Stairway to Heaven, Napali Coast, Road to Hana, black sand beaches, volcanos, stand up paddling, and camping.

Well... all good things must come to an end... but don't worry, they lead to other awesome opportunities !!

I have decided to no longer coach for BYU Hawaii. Soccer and Hawaii will always be a part of my life along with all of the great friends I left, but I have decided to pursue other dreams. I am now working for SkyWest Airlines working as a Flight Attendant. We fly United and Delta flights. I am based in Portland, Oregon and I am so excited to get to know my new city. It is beautiful here and I have a feeling I will quickly fall in love with this place. Even though I am a bit worried about the winter, I will hopefully make it through.

I have made some amazing friends through this process ... living in a hotel for a month is a definite bonding experience. I am excited for the Adventures we will have and look forward to being reunited in Paris :)

So up to the skies is where I go now! I love my life :)

While in San Diego, we had lots of fun and I was taken to lots of cool places. One of which was in Ramona. It was a hike to a beautiful waterfall, I think called Indian Creek Falls. The water was much too cold for me, but the guys sure had fun jumping in. It was such a fun hike with lots of pretty views. Hiking is something I really enjoy, and I was pleasantly surprised with what San Diego had to offer.

I really enjoyed my trip to the mainland. I was especially excited to eat all the yummy food that we don't have in Hawaii. (Chipotle, BJs, California Burritos, Cafe Rio, and my Momma's home cooking) It was so great to see my family and friends, it never seems long enough, but even our brief encounters mean so much to me. Including my brief moment snowboarding Copper Mountain was perfect. Wish so badly I could spend more time in those Colorado mountains with my friends and family. San Diego treated me great and welcomed me with nice weather, beautiful sites, and lots of fun.

New Years resolution? Still trying to figure that out, and open to suggestions. Work out more? Eat better? Save money? None of those sound appealing.... maybe get a puppy, or go to another country, or learn how to use my camera, or by a motorcycle, or volunteer. Ya, something along those lines.

Another One Off The Bucket List

Under prepared... but not under determined

Back in August I committed myself into running the Honolulu Marathon. I was totally committed and excited for about 2 months. Then, I kinda got over it. So, for the last month or so I didn't run as much as I should. And I might have kept looking for excuses to get out of it (rain storm, fake injuries, missing the check-in, arriving late day of) but somehow 5am there I was at the starting line (okay actually 5:08 like I said, I was late). Looking around at the herd of cattle, I mean runners, I realized I was a bit out of place. I was not Asian, I was not wearing a fanny pack, a hat, a Disney costume, a Santa suit, a wedding dress, a tribal outfit, I didn't have my camera with me taking pictures every 5 minutes, nor did I have my cell phone with me. I was impressed, I could barely do it in my tank top and shorts. But observing all these people definitely got me through the first have of the race. The last half was pure determination. I was determined to run the entire thing (minus the water stations where I walked), and I did :)

My goal was to complete it in 5 hours. I finished in 4:52.

Of the 20,411 participants I placed 4,880.

It was such an awesome experience. I am so glad that I didn't back out. 26 miles was pretty though tho, I think I am going to stick with half marathons. There is one on the Big Island in March, any one wanna join me?

Tis The Season

Winter out here is a lot different than what I grew up with in Colorado. I am used to snow and cold. But out here it is still sunny and warm. Winter out here means big waves. It is when surfers from all over the world flood to the North Shore. I haven't yet reached big wave surfer status, but I am enjoying photographing those that are.

When we went to play Dixie in St. George, I took the team on a hike through the beautiful Snow Canyon. It is gorgeous there and the girls loved it. Their favorite thing to do together is take pictures. I am like their mother walking around having them pose and say "take a picture of me." I have so much fun with them.

Napali Coast

A few weeks ago, Candice and I set out on an adventure to Kauai. We hike the Napali Coast. It is 11 miles in to the gorgeous beach. We had such a fun, crazy adventure the entire 4 days we were there, starting with the lack of preparation the day we got there. So many hilarious things happened (5 hitch hiked rides, ghost stories that freaked us out, "Wild" who showed us pics of him surfing in the 60's, spaghettios, "Spirit" and Andre the seashell men, the naked women, the hidden book store, our makeshift tarp tent, getting rained out, cuddling with the fire and each other, my bulging belly, no buses on Sunday, Bronco fans, $50 change fee, and much more!

This hike was amazingly gorgeous the entire 11 miles. We found hidden waterfalls, I saw moments of Colorado's beauty mixed with beautiful beaches. Definitely the prettiest hike I have ever done! I highly recommend it to everyone. It took us about 7 hours to hike in and we hiked out in 2 days, stopping halfway.

Its Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

I was lucky enough to be able to go home to Colorado for Thanksgiving this year and be with my whole family. It was awesome to see everyone. Good food and great times! It is hard being so far away, but I manage to see everyone a few times a year which is good. Hopefully I will get a few visitors out to Hawaii this year!! All the kiddos ... and yes I am wearing a flower, sometimes I feel like I am Hawaiian, then I remember I'm not.

This was taken right when Elsie got home from her mission a year and a half ago. I am so Thankful for family ... its the greatest treasure one can have!

Pipeline Photo Shoot

The biggest surf competitions in the world have been happening the last few months. Haleiwa, Sunset, and Pipeline (the Triple Crown of Surfing). Last year I only new the name Kelly Slater when it came to the surfing world. Being in Colorado and Utah I was more into the snow scene, so it has been fun converting to a beach/ocean lover (which I totally am!!) Pipeline is always awesome to watch, but this year the Eddie Aikau competition at Waimea went on due to the huge waves we've been having. Now THAT (the Eddie) was AMAZING! I seriously got the chills watching it.

Halloween!! My friend Kelsey's favorite Holiday. I consider myself a somewhat creative person. But not when it comes to picking out Halloween costumes. I can never decide, nor do I think my ideas are ever clever enough. I think it is the Pisces in me. People out here in Hawaii keep telling me I look like Cindy Lou Who. What??? Really?? Never heard that before. So I could be Cindy Lou Who... or others tell me to be Pebbles.

But I think I will end up being something similar to this:

I wish it wasn't out of the norm for adults to go trick-or-treating with out having kids with them. Me and my friends in High School went up until our senior year. Nothin wrong with that! Maybe I'll just steal some little kids candy bag!

I have to take a moment out of my busy schedule to talk about what I just ate. I normally don't blog about my food intake (although I should because I love food and I take pride in every bite I have), but what I just consumed was ridiculously delicious. Maybe it was because I hadn't eaten breakfast yet, and I was so hungered after watching my students play racquetball. I was thirsty too-- watching people work out is exhausting. And for the first time in awhile I was working in my office which is a rare occassion (I find it hard to get in work at my office when I don't really have to be here and the beach is screaming at me to come play with him. He doesn't like when I leave him alone, and I don't want to hurt his feelings, so I usually end up hanging out with him rather than working in my office.) Ok, back to my taste buds. So I leave my office to fill up my water bottle and I decide to grab something from the Seasider (food court on campus). I go in and grab an apple. An ordinary Red Delicious apple. It was just washed so it had a little bit of water droplets still on it. This was no ordinary apple. Something about this apple was different. It was sweeter than usual, or crisper, or I don't know. But it was GOOOOD. So good in fact, that I am now procrastinating my time in my office where I was committed to working and answering the 100's of unanswered e-mails of players that want to come to BYU Hawaii to play soccer, watching the DVDs of players highlighting their soccer skills, and planning a practice just so I can share with the blogging community that I had an incredibly scrumptious red apple. I think I can hear the beach crying. I better go cheer him up.

We went to San Francisco for a week and played 3 soccer games. Winning them all!

We went to Seattle to play the Defending National Champs. Played great, but lost 0-1.

Team activity at the Polynesian Cultural Center where we watched the night show.

This was in place of a practice one day ..... BEACH DAY! We can do that when you live in Hawaii :) I know, I know ... I'm a cool coach. Haha

And I get paid to do this? With my best friend, and partner in crime? Life is TOO good!

The other weekend me and my college friends were able to get together and have a girls weekend in Vegas. We had a weekend full of endless fun and laughter. I love these girls and the times that we get to spend with each other. These pictures are of us at Lake Mead. Thank you to T-Rex and providing the housing and the boat! You make a great captain. One of my favorite Utah spots. I have been there so many times throughout my life. With friends and family ... usually spontaneous get-aways filled with 4-wheeling, mountain biking, rock climbing, sand hill, camping, river rafting, off roadin, tons of hiking, and even a skydiving adventure one time. Since I was in Utah for about a week, I had to hit up my favorite spot. And yes, it was a spontaneous weekend getaway with my little sister Michelle. We had tons of fun filled with hiking, camping, smores, bonfire, Twilight, and lots of laughter.

Congrats to the Happy Couple!! One of best friends from college who I lived with for 3 years just got married. She has been dating Cameron for 10 years and they are still as happy as can be. They are so perfect for each other and cute together! Their wedding was gorgeous and I am glad I was able to be a part of it. Thank you to everyone for the Birthday wishes! My Birthday week was so great. Each day was a celebration. My roommate and her family started it all out with kidnapping me for breakfast followed with kayaking, games, Birthday dinner and cake. My soccer girls also had a treat in store for me. My Colorado BFF came out to visit for both of our birthdays! We had a lot of fun together. We hiked a few of my favorite hikes (Muanawili and 3 peaks), we went to the Big Island and explored Kona and Hilo viewing active volcanoes, waterfalls, black sand beach, ran a half marathon, jumped off Waimea rock, ate Acai bowls, went surfing, had a beach bonfire, went camping, went to a Polynesian dance show, climbed trees, played soccer with my BYU team, and laughed lots :)

I am looking forward to this year, because each each just gets better and better !!!!

My soccer girls put in 2 intramural basketball teams. One team asked me to play and I got my roommate to play with us (she is a former college basketball player). Very close very fun very intense !

Hawaii not only has beautiful beaches, but also a lot of beautiful mountains. Being a Colorado girl, I love hiking. Lately, we have been exploring all that Oahu has to offer. A group of us went on a hike that I have been wanting to do since I got here. You can see it from the freeway and it looks pretty scary. It is an actual 'stairway' that is led by 4,000 stairs straight up the side of a mountain. We left at 4 in the morning so we could see the sunrise. It was gorgeous. When we started it was dark except for the moon which led our way up and it looked as though we were climbing right towards it! It was pretty windy!

The other day I was walking by the elementary school and the kids were out at recess. One cute little boy, who was clearly the class clown, was trying to get my attention. He kept yelling, hey, hey, hey you .... so I turn around and this little boy does a dance or something silly, trying to show off to his friends, I laugh with him for a bit, then continue on my walk. His friends are laughing, and so I am I because it takes me back to that age. So, he trys again to get my attention, but this time I just kept walking, so he keeps trying. I couldn't help but start to overflow with laughter when I heard him say "hey, heeey you, hey hey white girl". I am not sure why I found it so funny, but I did :)

My younger team that I coach also jokes with me about being a haule (or a white person).

Extreme Sledding

Sledding at Sugarhouse Park with Anna. These sleds are priced around $400 and worth every penny! They are called the Hammerhead. We had to give these sleds a try!!The Hammerhead comes with pretty great warnings:
Death or Serious Injury can occur when sled is used improperly. Sledding can be a hazardous sport which can cause serious injuries.

Do not sled while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Use caution when operating this sled. This sled does not have brakes.
Sled in control at all times. It is your responsibility to avoid people and objects below you.
Do not attempt to jump this sled over a river, building, human bodies, or any other objects. Sled is extremely fast, not suitable for pansies.
Do not kneel, stand, or sit backwards while sledding.
Use protective clothing such as helmet, goggles, gloves, warm clothes.
Do not tow behind any motorized vehicle.
Only one person at a time, do not ride with others.
Do not attach a rocket to the back of the sled.

Home for da Holidays

I got to spend a week in California with some of my Besties. I visited San Clemente, San Diego, LA, and Glendora. Love my family and friends. Always a good time with tons of laughter. (Remember 5 fingers Teryn and Karrie?!) For the past 3 years our family Christmas has consisted of Michelle, Me, my Mom and Dad. Small gathering but filled with fun! I love being home in Colorado. I got to work at Brighton for the few weeks I was in Utah, I LOVE it up there. I had a great time being home for the holidays ... now back to Hawaii!!!

Mrs. Elsie WallaceMy gorgeous little sister, Elsie, just got married! The wedding was in the Sacramento Temple and was beautiful. It was so good to be able to see my family! I am so excited for her to start her own family with her best friend. I couldn't ask for a better brother-in-law. Jason treats Elsie like the princess I know she is, plus he is one of my good friends. I am oober protective of my little sisters and am glad to know that she is in good hands.

Elsie and Jason went on their honeymoon to Maui. I happen to have some friends over in Maui, so I thought I would go over and visit them .... while there, I called Elsie and surprised her! It was so fun being able to play with my sister and brother out in Hawaii! Unforgettable memories. Thanks for letting me spend some honeymoon time with you sis!!

Conference Champs!

I may not have any kids of my own, but I have 26 girls that are pretty much like my children, so I will brag about them :)

For the second year in a row, my girls (BYUH Womens Soccer) became Conference Champs. We had an amazing run to end the second half of our season with a record of 10-2. It has been such a joy coaching these talented girls. They worked hard all season long, and it paid off.

Winning Conference, we got an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament! This is the first year that BYUH Women's Soccer made an appearance in the tourney. We were bottom seed in our bracket and played UC San Diego. Being the "underdog" team full of freshman and sophomore's we played an incredible game. One of the funnest games I have ever watched/coached. We had players playing bigger than their bodies, and having the game of their lives! Regulation time ended wiith a scoreless game 0-0. First over time ended scoreless as well, second overtime with only a few minutes left, UCSD scored a goal, knocking us out of the tournament. With thoughts of what we could have done better, I couldn't be upset with how my girls played because they gave everything they had, and thats all I could ever ask for as a coach. I am so proud to coach a team full of girls who inspire me to be better and encourage me to be my best.

Did that really just happen???

So, tonight, I was hanging out at my neighbor's house just chillin eating quesadillas, watching Michael Jackson musice videos when all of a sudden a friend called and said someone was ticketing my truck. **side note: I live right across the street from a grocery store and park there during the day, but move my car at night because they tow cars that stay there over night**

So, I run outside, check on my car and luckily, no ticket, but a warning for no overnight parking. It was 11:00pm. For it to be considered over night parking, wouldn't my truck need to be parked there overnight? Just a thought.

Ok, so I move my truck, ask a cop why it had been stickered, he says he didn't do it but to read the signs. I have already read these signs, thats why I don't park there overnight. Duh. Ok, so I oblige and move my truck in front of my house, go back across the street, read the sign, and walk home.

All of a sudden another cop pulls up next to me, flashes his lights, turns on his sirens, and gets out of his car. He asks to see my license, which I dont have because I ran outside so quickly to move my truck that I forgot to grab it. I tell him I dont have it and ask if I did something wrong. He won't say. He asks for my name, height, weight, hair color, eye color, ssn, address, phone number, work number, favorite ice cream..... I again ask what I did wrong, he said JAY WALKING!! And, since he saw me drive and I didnt have my license he could arrest me. I felt like I was being punked! oh but he was nice and didnt arrest me, instead gave me a ticket for Jay Walking!?!? Ha, so nice. Best part, the first cop came over to give back up to his buddy, and jaywalked to us! haha. wow!

So about 30 minutes later after moving my truck which I thought might have been ticketed, I walk back home, with a ticket in my hand......... for jay walking. $70 fine.

Fishing with my Grandparents, eating at Red Mango, going to concerts at the Gallivan center, swimming, indoor soccer, hanging out with friends, camping, Hiking 14,000 ft + mountains in Colorado! Mount Harvard, Grays Peak and Torreys Peak!

I am going to miss the girls I coach, my family, my friends, Colorado, Utah, oh and my car! Love you all :)

I've Moved!

For those of you that don't know yet...... I have moved to Hawaii.

I have accepted the position of assistant coach at BYU Hawaii coaching the Women's Soccer team. I am the assistant to Coach William Mahoni and I am so excited. I already LOVE the team. I am also going to be teaching at BYU. I will be teaching Racquetball :)

there are few things in life that i would say i truly excel at. one of which is sleeping. i believe that i am an expert sleeper and could probably go professional. i can sleep anytime, anywhere, in any position and have a peaceful sleep and never wake up. however, last night was surely an exception to my so called skill. i was itchy all night. me and my sister went camping a few nights ago and i got bit by a fly or a horsefly or a fairy or a sabertooth pixie, i don't know what it was but it bit me. it didn't itch or hurt at the time, but wow, last night i was scratching my feet like a wild woman. i am sure i must have looked like i was going crazy. it kept me up all night. i had to go find me some anti itch cream to rub on my feet. all day today i carried not one, but 3 types of anti-itch cream in my purse because nothing seemed to help. i just kept applying:) it looks as though i have huge welts all over my feet and toes. when i put socks on, it just enhances the itchiness. i am at a loss of what to do.... HELP!!

5 Random Facts About ME!

1.) I was the naturalist (tour guide) on a whale watching boat in Alaska with some friends. One of my most favortie experiences ever. Alaska is BEAUTIFUL!

2.) I won a hamburger eating contest my freshman year of college and got free lunch all year! (and I am willing to challenge anyone to an eating contest)

3.) My worst experience ever was being stung by a poisonous caterpillar in Costa Rica! No lie. It is actually a very funny story though.

4.) I had a pet balloon when I was little. She was red and I called her Rosie. She followed me everywhere, until one day she ran away. I ran outside calling her name frantically, but she was gone. My neighbor (who was an elderly woman named Rose, and NOT a fan of children) thought I was calling out for her. oops

5.) Christmas 2006 it snowed 5 feet in Colorado. Me and my little sister Michelle were snowed in my house so we dressed up in dance outfits we had from when we were little kids and made ourselves a candle lit dinner!

Welcome Home Hermana Theurer! My little sister, Elsie, just got home from her mission. She went to LA Spanish Speaking. She is my younger sister, but in a lot of ways my big sister. I look up to her not only because she is 5 inches taller than me, but also because she is an unbelievably amazing person! She makes everyone smile, she is everyone's best friend, she is sincere, she is so wise, she is pure, she is an Angel and she is my Best Friend!

I'm not sure if any of you watch, but up until this week I haven't watched American Idol this season (other than the beginning ones when they show the terrible performances they like to make fun of, which I find hilarious!!). Last night was awesome though, I even voted for the first time ever, but I'm not going to admit how many times we called in :) And of course I voted for the cute David Archuleta! He is from Salt Lake and his high school is right down the street from my house, and is adorned with 'Archuleta We Love You' signs. Sadly, this adorable face didn't win :(

That's ok, it was a good excuse to go get some frozen yogurt

I have been sitting patiently waiting for the sun to come! But no.... yesterday and today SNOW!! I was coaching a soccer game in a blizzard. Brrrr. I have already packed my snowboarding gear for the summer. So, I decided to do something about it.

And, when I get back I expect Old Man Winter to have packed his bags and left!
